Can parents stay in and watch class?

We understand that it can be overwhelming to walk into a new dance school and join in on a dance class. To allow for this, if the child is slighty hesitant a parent or carer may watch the first couple of classes to settle their dancer. However, for the best learning outcomes children need to focus on their teacher. Our Tinyfeet Fairy Ballet dance classes require that parents leave the children in the care of our expert teachers so that the teachers have the children’s full focus.

It is also important that all children have privacy from other parents watching, as to them they are strangers! For this reason, we ask that parents do not stand in doorways or windows to watch and DEFINITELY DO NOT TAKE PHOTOS!

We do understand that many parents are keen to check their child is doing ok, but your teacher will let you know if there are any concerns. We will also offer an “open day” event where parents can come in view the class. This is usually last day of term.

*If your children are not ready to be independent, we recommend the Mumma and Me class where the parents can be in the class with their children.

What information should I know about Ballet Exams?

The exam is usually held in Term 3 at ADS studios. All ballet dancers are expected to do the exam. An envelope of the exam fees will be handed out to families during Term 2 and will need to be paid by the specified due date. There is a dress code for the exam: All dancers should wear appropriate ballet attire in their colour grade. This includes a leotard, skirt, ballet pink tights and shoes. All dance clothing should be clean and neat. Hair should be in a glued Ballet bun.

Can you tell me more about the ADS dinner/lunch programme for junior and senior dancers?

At ADS we understand that parents are busy, so we provided nutritious, cooked and healthy dinners and lunches on particular days for those junior and senior dancers. The children love eating together during their breaks and it encourages new friendships to blossom, while lending a huge helping hand to our parents. We also can see that it gives the dancers a boost of energy to come back to class refreshed and energised.

What happens if my child misses a lesson?

If your child is absent for a group lesson, where possible a make-up lesson will be arranged. Please note: ALL FEES ARE DUE EVEN IF YOUR CHILD IS ABSENT, ILL, ON CAMP OR ON HOLIDAYS. Please contact Armadale Dance Studio for suitable make-up lessons if your child has been absent.

Do you have dancing concerts?

Yes! We hold two performances every year. Our Winter Soirée is held in term 2. This is where all ballet dancers, from pre-primary to seniors, perform their graded class work on stage in a theatre. Our End of Year concert is held in term 4. The whole school comes together to perform on stage in a wonderful exhibition of their year's work. All of our genres of dance are presented.

Do I need to pay the yearly family fee?

Yes! We ask all families to pay the yearly family fee, as it helps to cover insurance for your dancer and amenities. By paying the fee, we rarely have to do any fundraising throughout the year.

How are class fees paid?

Class fees are a set price per term and are to be paid by the first week of term, unless prior arrangement has been made. Our preferred method of payment is through the booking site.

Can my dancer attend more than one dance school simultaneously?

At ADS we are a very proud of our careful dance technique training in all dance genres.

It is important for our ADS dance families to understand that we have a one school policy for the children and parents' best interest.

The only circumstances are if the dancer,

  • Dances with a ballet company,
  • Coaching with elite coaches from the Australian Ballet with ADS approval only,
  • It's a type of movement we don't offer like Bollywood, some forms of acro only (not combination classes) classes etc, with ADS being openly informed that this is what the child is doing so we can all work together.

It creates confusion, exhaustion for the kids and parents, and more often than not, bad habits and conflicting dance techniques passed onto the child that is going between schools. Not to mention school, teacher and student moral. We appreciate everyone adhering to this as it only benefits all.
